On Course Golf Tournament

HBCOA On-Course Golf Tournament

The "28th Annual" Golf Tournament 2020 was a huge success!

The greater Huntington Beach area is home to more than 50,000 seniors, age 55 years and over. The Huntington Beach Council on Aging supports local seniors and their families through many beneficial programs offered by the Senior Center in Central Park and Huntington Beach Seniors’ Outreach Center. Thank you our Title Sponsor's, First Bank and Banc of California, and all our other sponsors in supporting our 28th Annual On Course Golf Tournament. Proceeds from this event will help us continue to provide a wide variety of services, classes, activities and clubs designed to support seniors and low-income seniors in staying healthy and active.

The HBCOA annual golf tournament was held this year on Friday, October 2nd, 2020 at Meadowlark Golf Course. Given the situation with COVID-19, it was clearly a success. Many thanks to our Title Sponsors, First Bank and Banc of California and all of our other sponsors for supporting this event!

The day started off with HBCOA Board Members and Volunteers arriving to get everything set up. No indoor activities were allowed, so registration was all handled outside including temperature checks, masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing for all the event staff and the participating golfers as well. We cannot thank everyone who helped staff this event enough for their service, patience, and above all fantastic attitude. Pictured left is HBCOA President Beth Hambelton getting the day underway!

As the participants arrived and got checked in, a preset bucket of balls was available at the driving range for a little warm up. There was also a putting contest that gave participants the chance to get their green-savvy dialed in.

Once the tournament itself was underway, the golfers spread out across the course in a scramble format. With around 60 golfers participating, there was plenty of room to spread out and start at different holes so there was hardly ever any waiting for a group in front throughout the entire day. Hole #7 offered up a closest-to-the-pin contest and most people managed to clear the water hazard. The egret who likes to hang out in the pond was standing by in case anyone would have needed ball assistance!

One important aspect of the event is getting support from the City. This year the City Manager’s office fielded a team including City Manager Oliver Chi, Assistant City Manager Travis Hopkins and Chief Assistant City Attorney Michael Vigliotti. In this photo, Oliver shows off his chipping style. Click here for full story!
