Social, Community and Holiday Activities/Events for 2023

Working with the staff of the Senior Center in Central Park, the HBCOA present an array of social activities and events designed to make an Active Aging lifestyle fun and enjoyable. The list is the most current events we have to offer. Check back again for more exciting events coming soon.

February 2, 2023 General HBCOA Board meeting at which Fire Chief Scott Haberle and Police Chief Eric Para gave presentations to the Board of Directors. The meeting took place at the Senior Center.

Beach City Big Band

Senior Center in Central Park Presents BEACH CITY BIG BAND. In the Parkview room at 7:00pm the 4th Monday of every month. Come on in and join us for a Swingin' Good Time!

Hoag Screening

Blood Pressure Screening are the first Wednesday of the month 9 -11 AM

 

Memory Screenings are the third Wednesday of the month. Appointment Required Call 949-764-6288. Cost is $45.00.

Hoag Lectures

Hoag Lectures occur twice a month, second and third Thursdays, 9:30 AM. Please check the Outlook for lecture information or call the Front Desk at 714-536-5600.

Drum Yourself Healthy

Classes take place on the second Tuesday of the month, 12:30 - 1:30pm.

Surf City Gardeners

This volunteer run group meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 9 – 11am. Led by Master Gardener Chuck Nichols, monthly topics range from plants that attract butterlies to the right types of fertilizers. Gardeners of all kinds are welcome.

Cool Season Veggies Wednesday, September 13th 9am-10:30am

Don’t put away your garden tools after the summer crop! Learn about all the wonderful veggies that thrive in the California winter weather. Fresh lettuce, kale, broccoli, and cauliflower could be your bounty.

Wednesday Walkers, every Wedneday at 8:30am

Join the MOVEMENT at the Senior Center in Central Park.  It's as easy as one two!

STEP ONE: The program takes place every Wednesday at 8:30am. Participants will meet at the Senior Center and then walk either a 30-minuite or 1 hour loop throughout Central Park.

STEP TWO: Show up each Wednesday morning wearing comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes. Let's get healthy together!

NEW ACTIVITY Casual Hiking Group

*Easy Local Hikes Year-Round*

Looking to hike locally with friends? Then joinour Casual Hiking Group and meet people who enjoy the outdoors and the sounds of nature. If you’re interested please visit our front desk and ask to be put on the interest list. Each week the volunteer instructor will reach out to participants with details about the hike of the week! This is more of a social club, not a class, and an email address is required.

The 2024 HBCOA Membership Renewal period opens on September 16th

Current HBCOA members should have received a renewal notice in the mail between late August and early September with a 2024 membership form and instructions on how to renew. You can also renew using the form on page 2 of this newsletter, by stopping in at the Travel & Resource Room at the Senior Center, or by visiting the HBCOA website at www.hbcoa.org and selecting the membership tab in the top bar and following the prompts.

Make sure to renew your membership before December 1 so that you do not miss a single issue of the Outlook On Active Aging monthly newsletter.

Join OCTA staff as they present on bus riding basics, fare options, payment methods, trip planning, bus schedules, ADA accessibility, and much more in this informative presentation. Spots are limited and registration is required. RSVP at the Senior Center’s front desk!

Class Spotlight - Let’s Write Poetry Tuesdays at 12:30pm October 3rd - November 14th

In this fun interactive workshop, you will find your sources of poetic inspiration. You will explore new ways of using language and of expressing yourself. The many creative activities in this workshop will inspire you to craft unique, original poems to share with your family and friends. Sign-up at the front desk or visit HBSANDS.org

Fall Rise and Walk, Saturday Saturday, November 18, 8am

Join us in March for our Fall Rise & Walk, where you will be able to complete either a one mile or three mile loop through Central Park. All ability levels are welcome to participate, so come and walk at your own pace and welcome in the wonderful Spring with good health and friends. Refreshments and snacks will be available in the lounge after the walk. Enroll online at hbsands.org, or stop by our front desk!
